Levoxyl the medication I have relied on to keep me alive since the radiation of my thyroid is under a voluntary recall, due to a strange odor. This has been in effect since February, most pharmacies are just now running out of supplies.
The supply is expected to be down for approximately one year.
ugggh.
I do not want to use generic.
My options are ....die a slow agonizing death by hypothyroidism.
or use the generic.
So my friends, into the rabbits hole I go tomorrow morning. Day one of generic.
I am strangely sensitive to meds, so this is no minor undertaking here.
There is a reason why my endocrinologist strongly suggests his clients use the brand name. Generics can alter in ingredients from manufacture to manufacture with slight dose fluctuations.
With the Levoxyl I have one side effect that drives me bonkers. I have an 2 inch wide strip across my back that itches. RIGHT WHERE I CAN'T (*&*^&*% REACH IT. I have gotten good at ignoring it most of the time but It's not uncommon in my house to see me scratching my back with a fork. Its invisible too, which really irks me. I mean common! at least be red or weltie.
Benadryl and anti itch creams have no effect.
I am hoping this will go away with the generic...verses I don't know, getting worse?
In May the drug manufacture issues a second recall of Levoxyl due to questionable potency issues.
Which may be why I have been a freaking space cadet recently as I choose to use the last of the Levoxyl that my pharmacy carried. I bet my labs we just got back to a good place, are once again off.
RAAAFFF!! Bwahahaha! just mentioning that itchie strip pulled it back from my subconscious, where I keep it in a choke hold, and now my back is really itching.
*scratch scratch scratch*
I really should video this, I look like one of those obese cats trying to itch where they can't reach it.
Oh please let the generic work and the side effects be something along the lines of weight loss, or it makes all the hair on your legs fall out.
Either way June is shaping up to be an exciting thyroid month.
"Oh please let the generic work and the side effects be something along the lines of weight loss, or it makes all the hair on your legs fall out." LoL Wouldn't that be GRAND? I could go for that!! :-D
